About the Author

Hatsune Miku Visor Future Crystal Glowing DressKonnichiwa, Mikuites! I know I’ve written stories about my life, but I haven’t really written much about myself, so, following my blog’s 1 year anniversary, I thought this would be the most appropriate time to do so.

It’s hard trying to analyze myself; it’s like drawing a self portrait. Do people really want to know how many fish I’ve had or what’s my favorite flavor of ice cream? Well, it’s cookie dough, with cookies ’n cream being 2nd. And the only pets I’ve ever owned were fish –– mainly goldfish, one spotted catfish and betta fish (not at the same time of course) –– but I got tired of seeing them die. I’ve always wanted a cat, but everyone in my family hates them. I never liked cats, either, until I developed a fixation for cat girls in high school (maid cat girls are the best). My family wants a dog, but I will never go for one because they are loud and slobbery. The only exception I’ll make is for a dachshund or corgi. That’s the only reason we don’t have a dog, is because I don’t want one, but if my dad ever decided to get one, there’s not much I could do about it.

Haha, I feel like this is the first day of school all over again: You know, when you have to introduce yourself, but there’s always that one kid who says, “My favorite color is blue,” and then just sits down. Speaking of colors, my four favorite colors are blue, teal, black, and purple. My most favorite is blue, and coincidentally, most of my other favorite colors happen to be shades of blue. I liked teal years before Hatsune Miku. I started liking black back in my “emo” high school days. I only wore all black to school for ONE DAY and got a bunch of strange looks, but NEVER did it again, because truthfully my skin was burning up on the inside (this was in April, too). Even though I have a much cheerier disposition toward life now, I still love black. Ever since my college art professor told our class that those who like black are artistic, I’ve fallen in love with the color. I also like black because it represents nighttime and boldness. I’m not too fond of white, though (unless combined with black, because gives off a good contrast), because it’s too bright and reminds of an empty canvas (which needs to be filled).

I’ve always liked anime, ever since I started watching Dragon Ball Z in 1997, but I never knew what “anime” was until my best friend introduced me to the Love Hina manga in May 2004. I went to my first anime club in October 2004. I won’t reiterate the whole story, because you can read that here, but to make things short, I started out as a normal club member, then became an officer, then became president, then was a normal member again before leaving the club (I felt I was too old to continue going to a high school club).

I don’t need to tell you that I love writing; you can see it just from reading my blog. I’ve been writing for almost as long as I could talk. I’m still somewhat of a shy person, so you could even say that I write more than I speak. Writing is my way of expressing myself and getting my opinions heard. So, understandably, I am very thankful for my blog and all those who read it. I’ve tried Math and I’ve tried Science (specifically Physics, which I took an AP course my senior year), but English (creative writing) is what I’ve always loved most. Sometimes you just have to stop lying to yourself, and after my 2nd year of college I decided that I want to follow my passion and write novels for the rest of my life. Like I said, I’d been writing short stories since I was 5-years-old –– I was just bluffing to myself for the past 16 years about what I wanted to be when I grew up, until I made the definite decision to work on my first full-length novel during the summer of 2009, which I hope to get published.

Besides writing, I also love many other artsy things, such as graphic arts and a somewhat fresh interest I’ve developed (no pun intended) in photography. But my ultimate aspiration in life –– even more so than writing –– is to become a movie director. I figure I can write and direct my own movie(s). Jurassic Park was my inspiration. My all-time favorite movie is The Matrix Reloaded. I also like Pan’s Labyrinth, Cloverfield, Saw, 28 Weeks Later, REC, and Speed Racer, to name a few.

I guess I should mention that I am proud of being able to play the piano (I took lessons by my own will), but I’m not nearly as good as I wish I could be. I also played the violin all through middle school, but I like the piano better. I used to draw a lot as a kid, but graphic arts replaced that hobby, once computers became strong enough to make mind-blowing artwork. No offense to those who like to draw (I still want to improve my drawing skills); graphic arts is just easier for me and I like the flexibility of it, which is also why I prefer typing on the computer over writing.

Contrary to my former teenage self, I am no longer contempt with staying in one place for the rest of my life. I go out a lot more now than I used to, and I’ve come to realize that there is a much bigger world out there. I don’t know how much of it I’ll get to see in my life, but traveling the world sounds like an experience I would inevitably like to take part in. So far, I’ve been fortunate enough to visit all the states on the southern U.S. border, except for California. California, New York City, and Las Vegas (not in order) are my top 3 places in the contiguous U.S. that I’ve wanted to visit. I went to Las Vegas in summer ’09 and I loved it: the lights, the energy –– everyone is there to have a good time, and the people who work there know it –– and everything is open 24/7! Outside of the U.S., my top places I want to visit are Canada, London, Paris, Sydney, and Tokyo.

So yeah, that’s all the stuff about me which I haven’t mentioned on my blog already. If you want to know about other stuff I like, you can always just read my profile. =P Also, please feel free to ask me any questions anytime. ^_^

You should come visit Seoul sometime, it’s a great place. There’s restaurants all over the place and, unlike several places in the states, there’s plenty of people, so 95% of the time it’s safe to walk around during daytime, even in back alleys. (Just gotta watch out for some crazy Korean drivers! Taxi drivers get payed so little that they’re desperate for people to ride… so they drive pretty crazy to get as much as people as possible) But the transportation here is pretty sweet. Taxis are great (Make sure to ride the Seoul taxi if you come to Seoul, that’s at the very back at the airports, other drivers from other regions might try to scam you about 10 bucks more), buses are nice and cheap! (1000 won to get on a bus, that’s less than a dollar, except for airport buses which are only 14000 won, like 12 bucks) There’s tons of hotels, great Subway systems, etc.
If you get on the military base, there’s many places, and there’s the Dragon Hill Lodge, where I suggest people stay, because it’s a great hotel. Korea is a nice place, but things hardly ever change… like the North Korea “threat” is barely a threat. Every Korean knows they’re too afraid to bomb us or even shoot Seoul, because that means a war and Seoul feeds North Korea XD

My name is Catherine Meyers, I’m the admin of a web blog directory, while reading your blog and it’s reviews and great detailed articles about anime, I was wondering if you might be interested in a link exchange (no money involved), I would add your blog in my directory so my visitors will also visit your site and in exchange you add my website to your blogroll or links. Please let me know if you are interested and the best of luck with Mind of Miku.

    Cheers!

By the way, I read your last post, about stopping blogging, but I think you will be missed dearly from the blogging scene, love your writting style, and I think you’ll come back to us =P

  5. Interesting blog and interesting person. I also took a AP class for English Lit back in my senior year of Highschool. I really had a talent for it, according to my teacher (she even embarrassed during the last year; putting me on the spot saying how I was the best writer in her class) which made me motivated more. Hope things go well for the novel.

I’ll be keeping up with your blog and hope to get along with you ^^

That’s great to hear. I got praise from my teachers also, which I think is what motivated me to become a writer. I mean, I always knew I had some kind of talent, but it’s different once you hear it from someone else. Had it not been for them, I think I would’ve gone into math or science.

      Thanks for the support. ^^

      • It does make all the difference once you hear it from someone else, although when you can feel it yourself, even better to have the confidence. I’m glad you found it as something you truly would be happy with, as for myself….wish I could say the same, but think I need to do some thinking on my immediate future. Are you good with Math? Me, not so much, lol.

And no problem. It is pleasure a speaking with you, since we have and used to have a lot in common (even though, I think you are ahead of me in some respects. Makes me ashamed of myself) I would like to speak more when you have the time. I’ll go ahead and add you to my blogroll project, if you do not mind that is….
