Konnichiwa, Mikuites! When Strike Witches made the switch of studios from Gonzo to AIC, the greatest fear I had, besides the character designs getting horribly screwed up is that the pantsu would get removed, since that seemed like only a Gonzo thing to do. Thankfully, AIC opted to leave in…I mean leave out…the pants. As much as we SW fans are obliged, I have to wonder…do the Witches ever get a raise? How come they can’t afford pants? Is the military’s entire budget spent on R&D?
Anyway, hypothetically speaking, let’s say that the Witches can afford pants –– and that the pantsu aren’t just for fan service –– they just choose not to. Is it like that rule in “The Incredibles” about superheroes not wearing capes? Understandably, going pantless could mean better aerodynamics, but it must get breezy down there (or up, depending on which way you’re flying).
Also, wouldn’t the absence of pants make them more vulnerable? I mean, I know some extra clothes would do no good against a Neuroi beam, but what if they were facing bullets? Those few extra inches of cloth could be the difference between a bullet scraping them or penetrating their leg. Hell, why am I even discoursing all this? The Striker Unit should’ve been designed to cover their entire bottom half (damn you, Dr. Miyafuji, you perverted old man).
What do you think? Should the Witches wear more protection or are they better off flying in their pantsu?

I’ll be honest, I was thinking you were discussing the “no pantsu” or “pantsu” argument more than the “pantsu” “something more than pantsu” one…:P
Heh. I wish that were the case.
I… kinda agree with feal but for the heck of it, I think they should wear protection if they have a period… other than that, yeah, I’m the casual perv :D
It would be kinda hard to fly during that time of the month. x.x
I don’t think you’ve heard of one of the golden rules of anime. For female characters, as clothing decreases, attack and defence increase.
xD That’s amazingly true. Hence naked girls tend to have powerful punches.
I was under the impression that the lack of pants is to help them get into their strike units quicker and more efficiently. It’s also less baggage. There is a reason!
I guess every article of clothing matters when it comes to aerial fights. x.x
I think in their world they would be considered strange to wear pants.
It’s a world where sukumizu is the standard school uniform :)
You’re absolutely right. :D I wish I lived in a world where all women were required to wear sukumizu. ^^
