NaNoWriMo Begins
National Novel Writing Month officially began at 12:00am on November 1st. Although today is the 2nd day of the contest…er, trial…uh, challenge…I haven’t written a single word yet. So, technically, I’m already over 3,000 words behind (50,000 words / 30 days = about 1,667 words per day).
I blame Windows 7. In fact, I’m writing this post right now as I’m waiting for it to be delivered today. Actually, I’m not even sure if I’ll be doing any novel writing today either, because I’ll be so busy/excited installing Windows 7, plus I have to transfer all my files AGAIN.
Ugh… Luckily, I already have an idea about what I’m going to write. I actually came up with the idea a week ago, which is perfectly legal because you’re allowed to do outlining and brainstorming beforehand, just no actual writing until November 1st. I wasn’t sure if I was going to use this idea at first, but when November came, it was too hard coming up with a new idea, when my mind was already subconsciously building characters and a plot around this idea. Funny thing is, my idea is only about how the story is going to END. I still need to come up with a beginning and middle. XD
Anyway, just thought I should let you guys know what I’m going to be doing this November, even though I’ve mentioned it plenty of times before. The fact is that I still plan on doing it.
The only problem I personally have with NaNoWriMo is that it’s all about quantity, not quality, which goes completely against my mantra. I believe something should always be high-quality, no matter what length it is. Maybe that’s why in anime I prefer 12 or 24-episode series over 100+ series. Because the shorter anime sum up the story into a nicely wrapped little package. Less episodes almost always means less time for filler.
Anyway, this is why it took me a month to write 3 chapters for my current novel (the one I started in August). It’s gonna be hard for me to write 50,000 words without going back and editing every little detail. It’s also gonna be hard for me to write a novel of this length, if I think I can write one just as good in half the size. But we’ll see. The objective of NaNoWriMo is just to finish. So many people start writing, but never finish. NaNoWriMo pushes you to write a complete novel in 30-days. Editing comes afterwards.
